Hi,

I just installed mod_vikslider w/ Joomla 3.1/Protostar responsive template. Regardless of the image sizes, when the slider is in position-3 (top center), it forces all modules in position-7 (right) to position below the articles and breadcrumbs. It looks like the module is padding the right too much and forcing the right modules to wrap below.

Is this normal?

Thanks
Chris Leone

Hi,

No, that shouldn't be normal. The module doesn't have padding so the problem must be somewhere else.
Try reducing the size of the slider or try to see what is happening with Firebug.
Kind Regards

Hi and thanks for the reply. I have tried several workaround so far, however none have corrected the issue:

1. Tried using shorter width images (than the default 700px width).

2. Tried changing the module's width via the Joomla admin interface.

3. Edited mod_vikslider.php to force the to a smaller width:

div id="vikslider_<?hp echo $viksliderid; ?>" class="get('moduleclass_sfx'); ?>" style="overflow: hidden; margin: auto; position: relative; height: width:600px;">

4. Tried changing the vikslider_x class' position to static, etc.

Also, if I replace the vikslider module with another module in position-3, position-7 displays correctly.

So, I am wondering if this is more of a JQuery issue rather than CSS?

Thanks in advance,
Chris

Would it be possible for you to test the module in position-3 + Joomla 3 + Protostar template on your side? I am wondering if you get the same issue.

Thanks again,
Chris

Yes, that must be a jQuery conflict then. The default template protostar of Joomla 3.0 doesn't let any module use extended jQuery libraries like the one needed by VikSlider.
The problem is caused by the template that loads a jQuery library after the module has rendered, resetting this way the jQuery plugin for the transitions used by VikSlider.
In conclusion, VikSlider can't work with the template Protostar of Joomla 3.0 unless you don't edit the source code by calling the line "loadFramework" before the jdoc include tag type head. You would just have to move that line of code a few lines above because with that function the template loads all the Javascript libraries, including jQuery. Remember to disable the setting Load jQuery in VikSlider in case you adopt this solution.
Chris Leone 5-31-13 17:42
Thanks for the insight. If I understand your reply correctly, I am not sure this is the issue.

The index.php does not contain a "loadFramework" line, but rather initializes (I believe) JQuery via the:

JHtml::_('bootstrap.framework');

line. This framework is already loaded well above the line:

Bootstrap is all new to me, so I may be misunderstanding how everything works!

Hello,

It seems like the template Protostar has changed a little in Joomla 3.1, the version for Joomla 3.0 was different.
I've found this topic in the Joomla forum, maybe it will help you
http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=727&t=772052

We will have to do some modifications to VikSlider for Joomla 3.x because this way it doesn't work with the default template Protostar.

Hello,

We will fix this error as soon as possible. We recently updated the module and it seems like there's an error in the version for Joomla 3.0.
Staff E4j 5-3-13 07:57
Please download the module again, the error has been fixed.
Kunle 5-3-13 16:21
thanks on prompt reply. I downloaded again; error 500 solved but this new one appears:
Notice: Undefined variable: navenable in C:\wamp\www\smsportal3b\modules\mod_vikslider\mod_vikslider.php on line 101
Staff E4j 5-3-13 17:02
That is a php notice message. In most of the default settings of the php.ini that parameter is off but in WAMP is on by default.
If you download the module again you won't see that message anymore.
Kunle 5-3-13 22:05
I did and the error log isnt there again. Thx so much but i'm afraid there's one more thing, the images are just displayed i.e. none of the slide effects applied. All images and .html content render on page without slide effect.

Im running and installation of Joomla 3 with a html 5 responsive bootstrap layout. The module works everywhere except IE 8 9 or 10. It is not visible at all. I ran my code through the w3 validator and there is an error in your html where the div is calling for a height and width outside the style="" parameter and is giving errors. Any thoughts how to fix this?

Hi,

Please download the file again. Now the width and the height should be inside the style attribute of the div tag also in the version for Joomla 3.0.
David Fonseca 5-3-13 01:55
What ever you did, totally broke it in all browsers now. Now I am getting a 500 - JHtmlBehavior::mootools not found.

:'(((

Thanks for such a great extension. Is it possible to make this SEO friendly, I have noticed none of the images have ALT text, Alt text for each image can be very helpful with SEO, is this something you can help with please?

Also, is it possible to browse and choose a folder to show images from. Because it would be very difficult if I have 5000 pages and I want to show different images for each page or category.

I want to be able to copy the module for each page and select different image source directory and then select images from that specific directory to show. If I have 5000 images it would be extremely difficult to scroll and select from a single folder. I can instead create several directories and store relevent images in their directories. I hope I have managed to explain what I mean.

Thanks in advance for your great work.

Hello,

I agree that an ALT text in the image tags would be useful. We should add a parameter to each entry in the xml file of the module.

About choosing a different folder, this is a little more complex because VikSlider is a module and it gets no inputs from the user for reading the files from a different folder. The default path is defined in the xml and it's not easy to override it in each clone of the module.
We would have to create a custom parameter that loads the files of a directory via ajax and returns a select tag. It wouldn't work with Joomla 1.5, it might work only with Joomla 2.5 and 3.0.

I understand that with 5000 images it would be hard to find the one that you want.

We will see what we can do in the next version!

Love the VikSlider, thank you! I'm running it on an old J1.5.25 rockettheme template. Unfortunately, it isn't showing up in the Chrome browser. Any ideas to fix?

Hello,

Please download VikSlider again and re-install it.
The version that was online wasn't writing "px" next to the height and width of the div tag container and in some browsers the slider wasn't working correctly.
A few days ago we updated VikSlider and we left this bug. Now it should work also with Chrome.

Sorry for this inconvenient.
C. 3-20-13 15:55
Hi, and thank you for the reply! I did download, and uninstall/reinstall the module. Using Firebug, I can see the "px" preceding height and width, however, the slider is still not visible in Chrome.

Just double checking that I did everything correctly?

delete the link for the first image if you have one worked for me on j2.5 + rocket themes.

Hello,

I have Vik Slider 1.1 installed on Joomla 3.03.

http://themordicegroup.com.au/home

When I try to reload the home page in my browser, the slider does not display. If i re-enter the url in the address bar, it does display. I have tried with different browsers all with the same result. I have no other instances of jQuery either.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Hello,
I've installed vikslider on joomla 3.03. The only problem I've run into is the sizing of the images. In the html code they are being inline styled as the images original dimensions although I had placed my specified size in the module options.
I'm defiantly doing something wrong.

Thanks

Hello,

The size of the module that you specify in the module options should be the same as the biggest content of your slideshow. VikSlider doesn't resize the images, it's jQuery that adds the inline width and height attributes for the animation.
You should resize the images before uploading them.

Hello,
I installed the vikslider on joomla 2.5.8
I love how easy it is and the different slider options.
My question:
How can I make different slide shows with different pictures on different pages? looks like right now it will only recognize the one vikslider file of images.
Also- can i have more than 9 images on one slide show?
Thanks for your advice.

Hello,

If you want to have a different slideshow in another page you can just duplicate the module and choose different images for the Slide 1, 2, 3, etc..
All the images are in the same folder but you choose the ones that you want to use for the slide show.
If you want to have more than 9 images on one slide show, you have to add other fields in the xml. Please read the first message of this Area, another user asked that.

Kind Regards

Nevermind, I found the dimensions. Sorry! I hadn't had time to look at the installation yet. Thank you anyway! 800 x 200. :)
