Having problems with a calendar not showing up on my page with the rental component in a module. If I put it in a different module, it shows up. But it doesn't show up everywhere.

I demo'd the site to my client, and they are fine with the calendar, I just have to have the drop off turned off everywhere, - is this easy to do?

Thanks

Hi,
you probably have a Javascript conflict on your website caused by a not correct loading of the jQuery libraries. If you take a look at the Documentations page on our website you will see that by disabling the setting "Load jQuery" from the parameters of your modules (mod_vikrentitems_search), the conflict should disappear.
If your other modules are loading the jQuery libraries according to the Joomla standards then you shouldn't have any jQuery conflict. Otherwise you can install a third party plugin called Easy jQuery that was made specifically for fixing this kind of Javascript errors.

Hi, is there a tutorial or any doc about setting up paypal account parameters?
thx

Hi,
in the Documentations page you can find something about setting up the method of payment PayPal. It's really simple, you only need to publish the method of payment from the back-end and make sure the setting "Auto-Set Order to Confirmed" is disabled. Then from the Configuration page you have to enter your email address in the setting "Account for Payments", the same address that you use to login onto your PayPal account and everything will work.
In the new version of the program we will change the payment framework and each method of payment will be configurable from its page.

Thank you for your prompt reply. In the meantime tried using the paypal ID account and it worked the as well. Good job

Hi,
There are multiple ways to set up the system like that. The first way could be the following:
from the Configuration page you can force the Pickup and Return times to 12 o'clock and you can set a minimum number of days of rent to 7 days from the parameters of your boats from the Edit page.
The second way to set up the system like that is by using the Time Slots. You should just create one that returns a duration of 7 days of rent that starts at 12 o'clock and ends at 12 o'clock. Don't forget to assign the Time Slot to your Items (boats).
Then from the Fares Table task of the back-end you should make sure that all your boats have a cost for 7 days of rent.

Hey,
Wanting to use the offline credit card processing function, but it lets me make a booking before requesting card details?
Any way to 'force' a user to enter card details before the order is actually made? I do not want booking emails unless a user has actually provided cc details.
Also how are the credit card details sent/stored?
I have a SSL certificate but need a system that is PCI compliant.

Hi,
If the setting "Auto-Set Order to Confirmed" is disabled then the Status of the bookings when selecting the Offline Credit Card as payment method, will be Pending so the Items will not be considered as booked yet. The credit card details can only be asked in the order details page so after the booking has been saved. It is not possible to invoke a method of payment without having an Order ID.
The system that collects the credit card details is PCI compliant as no data is stored in the database, they are just sent via email to the administrator address. You can force that page to be in HTTPS if you have a SSL certificate by changing the value of a constant in the php file offline_credit_card.php.
In the next version of the program we are going to improve the payment framework and any method of payment will be configurable directly from the administrator section and the credit card details will be partly stored in the database and partly sent via email.

Hi,
I set the calendar type to jquery, and I have time window for certain items. And I have global opening times. For an article I have no time window.
Unfortunately, they do not appear in my front end. Anyone else the problem?
Is there a solution for this?

Thanks YAK

Hi,
It sounds like you have a jQuery conflict on your website if the datepicker calendar is not working properly for some Items. You should make sure that the setting "Load jQuery" is disabled on all your modules, you can leave it enabled instead in the Configuration of Vik Rent Items.
I'm not sure if you were also talking about the Time Slots, if so, make sure that they are either set as "Global" or assigned to all your Items.

Can the calendar system be removed easily? I am building a quote only, as my client does not want to use the calendar. Is this shut off easily?

Thanks

George

From the Configuration page you can set the number of calendars to be displayed to 0 so that no availability will be shown in the front-end.
You can then use the search form Views or let the users browse your products from the Items List Views that can be filtered by category.
Since you have to build a quote only system, I guess no payment methods should be published or you can use the "Bank Transfer" and rename it into anything you want like "Get quotation" as that payment method doesn't do any online transaction, it is only meant to give your clients information.
In order to display the rental costs and send the quote request, users will have to choose some dates so that the program will calculate the exact cost. If you disabled the Configuration setting "Bookings Enabled" then no search forms will be displayed in the front site but the only information displayed about the prices will be the "Starting From" price of the Items List page defined in the parameters of each of your Items.

Hi,
Vik Rent Items - am I able to set global rental periods with set prices for each item?
example drop down with 3 days, 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month and each of these time frames has a specific price associated with it?

Thanks

Staff E4j
Hi,
Yes, you can easily do that. If you want those rental periods to be available for all your Items then just use the Time Slots for each rental period (3 Days, 1 Week, 2 Weeks, 1 Month etc..) and mark the option "Use in Global Search". This way any Search Form will show your Rental Time Slots. You can then manage the costs of your Items from the Fares Table task of the administrator section. Just remember that if the Time Slot "3 Days" has a duration of 3 days, your Items need to have a cost for 3 days of rental otherwise they won't show up in the search results.
You can find more information about the calculation of the length of the rental in the Documentations page. You might want to check how the Configuration setting "Hours of Extended Gratuity Period" will affect the calculation of the duration of the rental if you are using the Time Slots. By default that setting is set to 0 so "3 days and 2 hours" will be considered as 4 days of rental for example, if it was set to 2 then the cost taken for "3 days and 2 hours" would be for 3 days of rental.

I'm looking to use either Rent Items or Booking to provide a system for booking bike tuition for individuals or small groups, we offer different products like beginner and advanced for 1 day and half day sessions.

My question is it possible to edit the interface in rent items to change the 'Hire your items' title to 'book tuition' ? and 'Pick up Date' to 'Date' ?

Thanks
Chris

Hi,
With the Time Slots feature you can create time intervals that your users will have to select and these Time Slots should be set as "global" so that the "Drop Off Date and Time" will never be asked and it will be calculated automatically depending on the length of your Time Slot, 1 Day, Half Day ..etc.. Vik Booking would definitely not work well for you. Each one of your products (beginner, advanced..) should correspond to one Item where people can book more than one unit. From the administrator section (task Fares Table) you will be able to manage the rental daily and/or hourly costs.
The label "Hire your Items" is just the title of the module mod_vikrentitems_search and you can change it from the Joomla Module Manager. Any other language definition can be changed from the .INI language file of Vik Rent Items.

Fantastic, thanks.

Hi,
You can increase the costs of your Items with the Special Prices. Charges can have percentage or absolute values so just create a Special Price and select only the day of New Year's Eve.

Is there a way to set the time fields to use a 12-hour clock (with am/pm) instead of a 24-hour clock?

Hi,
For the moment it is not possible to change the time format. This option will be added in the next version of the program and you will be able to choose between 12 (with AM/PM) or 24 hours format.
Sleepigrl
Thanks, I'll look forward to the next release, then!

Hello,

Any update on this? I am running VikBooking 1.5 and do not see the option to use 12 hour time format.
